How To Custom Make Your Hair System: Choose the Right Base Material

The base is the “scalp” of your hair system, and its material impacts comfort, breathability, durability, and realism. There are three core base types, plus hybrid options for the best of both worlds:

1. Lace Base

Ultra-breathable and lightweight, perfect for hot climates. It creates an incredibly natural hairline, but has a shorter lifespan (2–4 months). Swiss lace and French lace are the most popular choices for a sheer, undetectable finish.

2. Skin (Polyurethane/PU) Base

Mimics the look of real scalp, with a knot-free design for a hyper-realistic hairline. It’s durable (3–6 months) and easy to attach/remove, making it great for beginners. Thinner PU bases look more natural, while thicker ones last longer.

3. Mono (Monofilament) Base

Strong, long-lasting, and budget-friendly. It’s sturdy enough for daily styling and offers good breathability, making it a practical choice for regular wear.

4. Hybrid Base

Combines lace (for the front hairline) and PU/mono (for the rest of the base) to balance realism, comfort, and durability—this is the most popular pick for many users.
